MyVi Exclusive Edition

New Exclusive Edition by Perodua Myvi

As we reported earlier this week, Perodua has added one more variant to the Perodua Myvi range called the Perodua Myvi 1.3 Exclusive Edition. The Myvi Exclusive Edition is limited to a production run of 5,000 units and it is now open for booking.

The Myvi Exclusive Edition runs the same 1.3 liter DVVT engine as the rest of the Myvi range, save for the 1.0 liter model of course. The 1.3 liter engine is the K3-VE inline-4 DOHC with variable valve timing producing 86 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 116Nm of torque at 3,200rpm. No 1.5 liter Myvi in sight yet, and it looks like if you want that you’ll have to just opt for the D46T and get a larger boot or a third row of seats in the process. What the Myvi Exclusive Edition does have is some uprated equipment.

It has 14 inch alloy wheels, side skirts, and chrome door handles on the outside. On the inside, the chrome treatment continues on the inner door handles. The seats, door trims and steering wheel are wrapped with leather. The audio system is a 2-DIN system (not the Myvi’s standard integrated audio) supports CD, MP3 and WMA, USB support and a Bluetooth handsfree feature. Basically it’s the same 2-DIN system that the Myvi SE gets.

Only three colours are available – Ebony Black, Ivory White and Medallion Grey. It’s priced at RM51,000 for solid colours and RM51,500 for metallic colours. It’s basically a regular non-SE Myvi but with side skirts, Myvi SE alloys and the upgraded specs mentioned above. This is for those who want abit more than a standard Myvi but don’t like the styling of the Myvi SE or the SE’s higher price. In accordance with its specs, its price is also somewhere in between a normal Myvi and a Myvi SE.

On another Myvi-related note, have you noticed that Caribbean Blue is no longer available as a colour choice? I liked that colour.

New Face for Perodua Myvi

Facelift by Perodua Myvi

On August 22, 2008, an updated Perodua Myvi was launched. The new Perodua Myvi features a modified front grille, front bumper, front bonnet, rear bumper, alloy rims, dashboard color, instrument panel design, MP3/WMA player and seat fabric. Its 1.3 Premium model additionally features new UV protection glass, a seat height adjuster, as well as a new audio system USB and Bluetooth capabilities.

A "Special Edition" of the new Perodua Myvi SE was also launched on October 10, 2008 with a new bumpers, clear taillights, smoked headlights, an amber instrument panel, leather seats, and a 2-DIN Compact Disc Player with MP3, WMA, USB and Bluetooth support instead of an integrated unit. It is only available with a 1.3L engine with a manual or automatic transmission.
Reception

The launch of the Perodua Myvi was significant as it marked first time Perodua competed head-to-head with Proton, the first Malaysian national car maker, which would release a similarly classed Proton Savvy.

The Perodua Myvi 1.3 beat its rival, the Proton Savvy 1.2, as the "Car of the Year 2005/2006" by Autocar ASEAN, a magazine for car buyers in Malaysia. The Edge Daily, a local financial news media reported that Perodua Myvi sales have far surpassed its initial expectations and has been selling extremely well since its rollout in April.

Proton's Savvy, available to the market a few months after the launch of the Perodua Myvi, had not affected Perodua Myvi sales. Observing the strong demand for the Perodua Myvi, it boosted sales of vehicles in the country and Perodua's market share in 2006.

Facts you need to know about kereta Myvi

Here's my thoughts about kereta Myvi.

The Perodua Myvi is a supermini/ subcompact car launched in 2005 by Malaysian car maker Perodua. The Myvi was the result of Perodua's collaboration withToyota and Daihatsu. Based on the second generation Daihatsu Sirion/Boon, the MyVi is also similar in design as the Toyota Passo.

ENGINES/TRANSMISSIONS
There are two DOHC EFI engines available, both of which are already in other Perodua models. The smaller one is the EJ-VE 989 cc which powers the Kelisa/Kenari and the larger one is the 1298 cc K3-VE used for the Kembara. In case you have forgotten the power outputs, the EJ-VE puts out 58.5 ps/42 kW and the K3-VE, which has Dynamic Variable Valve Timing (DVVT), produces 87 ps/64 kW. 5-speen manual and 4-speed electronic automatic transmissions are available.

HOW MANY VERSIONS?
Five, with only one (Myvi 1.0SR) having the 1.0-litre engine. The others have the 1.3-litre engines and two high-grade versions come with airbags, ABS and some extra accessories. Almost 80% (976 parts) of the car comes from Malaysian or Asean suppliers. All versions used 14-inch wheels except the Myvi 1.0SR which has steel wheels.

HOW GOOD IS THE QUALITY?
In order to assemble the Avanza for Toyota, Perodua’s factory had to be able to meet the quality standards of Japan’s No. 1 automaker and it has achieved a defect rate of 0.2 per car – that’s 2 defects per 10 cars. This rate has been achieved with the first production units and Perodua is confident that it can be maintained. It is certainly a big improvement from 10 years ago when the rate was between 2.0 and 2.5 PER CAR.

WHAT ARE THE COLOURS?
Ebony Black, Klasik Gold, Glittering Silver, Mocca Silver, Ozzy Orange, Mistik Red and Olive Green. Only the first three colours are available for the Myvi 1.0SR.

HOW MUCH?
Confirmed prices (including insurance) for Peninsula Malaysia are:
Myvi 1.0SR RM41,200
Myvi 1.3SX RM44,755/RM45,300
Myvi 1.3EZ RM47,781/RM48,300
Myvi 1.3SXi RM47,781/RM48,300
Myvi 1.3EZi RM50,781/RM51,300

Myvi SXi and EZi versions have dual airbags and ABS; Myvi EZ and EZi versions have 4-speed automatic transmission; Myvi SR is only with manual transmission.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR ONE?
In the past few months, many people have already placed advance orders and to date, there are some 5,000 Malaysians waiting for their Myvi and the first ones will be taking delivery before the end of the month. Perodua expects to sell 4,800 units a month and for 2005, the planned production is 35,400 units. So if you get into the queue right now, you may have to wait a month or more since the first month’s production is obviously sold.

WHAT IS IT LIKE BEHIND THE WHEEL?
A brief driving session provided to the media at the Sepang Circuit showed the Myvi to be a pretty nippy car, not surprising considering its size. Handling is good for this class of car with confidence-inspiring stability in corners. Noise, Vibration and Harshness, an issue which has often been high on the list of owners, has been well addressed and even the blower has a lower noise level.
